§ State the learning problem that justifies this project. Consult with your clients to get a good grasp of the problem.
§ Define the task to be performed and the performance gap that is causing the problem.
§ Is it a training problem or a different performance problem?
§ What are the performance steps in moving from a non-performer to a performer?
§ What are your content area learning objectives or goals?
§ What is the timeline for this project?
§ Identify priorities and constraints that collaborative partners might need to be aware of.
§ From the perspective of the learner, describe the beginning, middle and end of your training session.
§ Write the learning objectives; select an overall approach and the program's look and feel; outline units, lessons, or modules. Is there interactivity? If so, how is it used?
§ Describe the user options that are available throughout the training sessions.
§ Will there be feedback from the instructor to the learner? If so, how/where?
§ Will the content progress from simple to complex issues?
§ Who will be involved in this project and what responsibilities will each person have?
§ Identify additional stakeholders. What role will they play?
§ Create instructional aids
§ Prior to your session, demo/pilot the training content with a small group so that their feedback can be used to revise and improve the session. How will you accomplish this?
§ What SME (subject matter experts), if any, will you be using?
§ Duplicate and distribute necessary materials.
§ How will you know if the instructional objectives have been achieved? What measures will you employ?
§ What method will you use for collecting feedback from the learners regarding the session, sequencing of information, and its content? Does the training solve the learner’s problems?
§ For best results, find points to evaluate throughout the entire process.
